Cyber Monday. Not much is really sacred.

I’m on the Answers in Genesis mailing list. You might think I’m just a glutton for punishment, but it’s actually rather fascinating. About once per week, I’m able to glean a little greater insight into the mindset of Ken Ham (founder and CEO of Kentucky’s Creation Museum). And today’s Cyber Monday mailing illustrates something else, something Bob Dylan wrote decades ago… Not much is really sacred.

Today, Answers in Genesis blasted out an email with the subject, “FINAL DAY to save on almost everything!” The message body consisted of three things:

1) A large, flashing, animated GIF image imploring me to “Shop Now”. (click for full image in all it’s animated glory)

2) A special “BFxxxx” (presumably, “BF” for “Black Friday) code for 25% off, that “Ends Monday!”

3) A “Download Deal” offering “Proof of God” (a video) for two bucks.

Proof of God. Let that sink in… Proofof God. On sale. For a buck-ninety-nine. But hurry! One week only!

That all struck me as funny. And sad. And yet another example of the genius of Bob Dylan, who back in the summer of 1964, wrote what is the strongest contender for my favorite Dylan song of all time. It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) contains the following lines…

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Make everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It’s easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred

Spot on Mr. D. It’s Cyber Monday and not much is really sacred.
